The national organization has updated their medical forms for 2020. Please use these forms going forward!

Instructions for the new medical forms:

ABC Medical Form (required for Massawepie)

Required for Massawepie and Troop Camp Outs. All scouts and adults should use this form. Please fill out parts A, B, and C completely, and bring it to your doctor for a signature.

If you are going to Philmont, use this instead:

This is the same ABC form, plus a special risk statement tailored to Philmont.

Please note: as the summer camp sign up season gets underway, we will have NYS medication forms, dietary restriction forms, and probably more immunization forms to fill out. They will all be posted on this page.

You must either be fully vaccinated (last shot two weeks before camp) OR have had Covid-19 within three months prior to camp, OR test negative for Covid-19 within 72 hours prior to camp. Fill out this form and attach a copy of your vaccine card or test results.

Parental Involvement

Scouting is about teaching life skills, and we welcome what you have to teach our scouts regardless of your previous BSA involvement or lack thereof.

Troop 129 encourages an active parent committee.  Leaders and parents generally meet the first Monday of the month while the boy leaders have a separate meeting to plan upcoming activities. All parents are encouraged to attend, even if they don’t have a leadership role in the troop. We make sure adult leaders are assigned to help the boys plan and execute their outings and meetings. Parent roles can include weekly involvement, or individual projects at specific time of the year. 

We have three goals for getting parents involved with the troop:

• Many hands make light work.
  
• Smooth transfer of responsibilities and skills as older scouts leave the troop and younger scouts join.
• Parents know where their kids are, who they are with, and what they are doing.

What If You Don’t Like Camping?

No worries!  There are plenty of indoor, administrative jobs for parents, like organizing a court of honor, helping with recruitment, managing troop finances or leading a group earning a merit badge.

What is the Time Commitment?

We have a Patrol Leader Committee meeting and a parent meeting the third Monday of every month.  All other Mondays are regular troop meetings for all the scouts. We do not meet on school holidays.

We usually camp one weekend a month, within driving distance of Rochester.  Parents take turns driving and camping with us.   We take longer trips for part of spring break–past trips have been to Gettysburg, caving inside a mountain, Washington DC, Boston, and New York City.  (The mom writing this had a blast on all of them!)

We also help our charter organization, the Rayson-Miller American Legion Post, with Veteran’s day and Memorial Day ceremonies, Candlelight Night, and Paddle and Pour.

We recognize that many of our scouts also have sports and school commitments, so our attendance policy is flexible.  We want the scouts to set their own life goals and priorities and help them figure out how to meet them.
